Sept 19th, 2020 Red Top Field Trip Report

On Sat. Sept 19th we went up to our Red Top dig site on the SW side of Red Top Mountain near Cle Elum. It was a rainy morning on the west side of the Cascades, but a gorgeous day on the east side.  Thankfully the smoky air had cleaned out and temps were in the upper 50s to 60.  6 of us met at the Mineral Springs store off of Hwy 97 and drove up Blue Creek Road to our dig site.  The previous day’s rain had cleaned off a bunch of agate/jasper in the tailings that could easily be picked up.  All of us found plenty of material to take home, digging and collecting from tailing piles, including a few crystal plates.  Pics below.

Presidents Message

  • From the Top of the Rock Pile . . . . Everything is going well with our club. I am looking forward to putting the year 2021 in the rearview mirror. It feels good to be taking baby steps towards some sense of normalcy. I am also looking forward to the upcoming club elections and having some new people on the board with new ideas. If everything goes as planned we will resume our Cascade Gem & Mineral Show in August 2022. Planning is getting underway as it is only 9 ½ months away. I feel like there is nothing

Meeting Announcements

  • The 2021 holidays are coming upon us very fast!   I am so happy to say that this year we are having our annual potluck dinner, the election of officers, and club auction. Mark Your Calendars Now! Sunday, December 12th, the setup is at 11 am, and dinner is at noon. Our dinner will be held at our regular meeting place, American Legion Hall, Kent. The club supplies roasted turkey and baked ham. You bring a side dish of your choice. If you don’t cook, you can always bring a store-bought dessert, drinks, dinner rolls and butter, cranberry sauce, or something from the grocery deli counter. Just be sure to bring your own silverware and plate. If, for some reason, you can’t bring anything, please plan on joining us anyway. We would rather see you than not see you. It’s always enjoyable to sit and talk with each other and enjoy the season together. It is the club’s opportunity to say thank you for being a member this year. Kat Koch, President
