President’s Message – August 2018

A Note from the President’s Desk . . .

There was a large turn out at last years picnic. It’s such a beautiful spot, good food and great friends. Let’s do it again this year.

In case you are a new member and/or have not attended our summer picnic before, it’s a pot luck with a silent auction following. It’s always a good time to visit with one another and to pickup some good bargains at our auction.

Our youth program is now up and going. The group is called “Young Tumblers.” Our newsletter now has a section just for the kids called “Mini Miner’s.” Help your youngster read and do the activities. So check it out.

We had several members volunteers to help out at our show. We still need a lot more volunteers as it takes 50 to 75 volunteers to cover our show. So far we have about 15 people signed up! We must cover our two entrance tables and we so far do not have enough volunteers for this position.

So remember to volunteer for our show!!!!! Sign up at our August picnic meeting or contact Mark or Kat. Time is getting short – don’t wait until it’s panic time.

With schools out for many local school districts, we invite members, guests, and especially families and kids to come and enjoy one of our most fun nights of the year. Everyone is guaranteed to win at this FREE event! All you have to do is bring three wrapped presents – presents can be rocks, gems, minerals, crystals, fossils, cabochons, slabs, jewelry, tumbled stones – anything you think might be a nice gift for a rock enthusiast.

  • Our own Mike Blanton will bring his expertise to this club meeting program – he will share the tools, tips and tricks he has developed to drill holes in stones and minerals so you can do more with the rocks you find. Show and Tell: bring a rock you’d like to make into something else.

  • Club Wagonmaster and rock shop creator Roger Danneman will present an overview of the new club shop – including equipment, scheduling, stewards, and what you can expect from this exciting new resource.  Show and Tell: bring a rock you want to polish or make into a cabochon (or something you’ve already polished or made)
