Presidents Message

  • From the Top of the Rock Pile . . . . I am so looking forward to Maple Valley Days at Lake Wilderness. It is going to be such a fun event. I still need 1 more volunteer for our club booth on Sunday morning, October 10th. Please contact me asap if you would like to volunteer. The club still needs rocks for the spinning wheel at this event. Please let me know if you have some and I can arrange to pick them up. Mike and I will also be selling at this event. Meeting Announcements

  • We need to get our lapidary shop winterized. We are having a volunteer work party on Saturday, October 23rd, at 10:30 am. Contact Diana Horsfall for the address and further details. Her info is in the Tumbler.    

  • Dr. Russell Calvin Boggs will be speaking at our meeting. He is the founder and curator of the North Cascades Mineralogical Research Institute and Museum. Dr. Boggs will talk about the minerals of the Golden Horn Batholith at Washington Pass (Highway 20) in the North Cascades. He will also give a brief talk on the plans for the North Cascades Mineralogical Research Institute. The North Cascades Mineralogical Research Institute and Museum is a non-profit corporation to promote mineralogical research, operate a mineralogical research lab (XRD, petrographic microscope, and Electron Microprobe), and operate a mineralogical museum primarily related to the Pacific Northwest. Mark your calendars and plan on attending. I would like to give him a warm welcome as he will be traveling from Marblemount during peak traffic time to speak to us. Show ‘n Tell: A rock, mineral, or fossil you have in your collection from Washington, Oregon, or Idaho.

  • Time is Running Out – Lower Dues for 2021 2021 club membership dues is $15 for a family or individual! The Board has approved a temporary reduction in our dues for 2021 only to $15 per family or individual. As of October our dues will go back up to $25 per family or individual. Our club is resuming in person general meetings on June 10th. Our general meetings are held on the 2nd Thursdays of each month at 7 pm. From our website you can use a credit card to renew your membership. You can also mail a check to CMS, c/o Charles Benedict, 25838 W. Lake Wilderness Dr. SE, Maple Valley WA 98038.
