Oct 20th, 2018 Clipper Mine Field Trip Report

We had perfect fall weather for our field trip to the Clipper Mine on Sat. Oct 20th.  Fall colors were gorgeous. This was probably the largest group we’ve had which included 19 vehicles, jointly with the Puyallup Club. I didn’t collect very much material here, but my son and I came prepared with headlamps and hard hats to check out the mine. A number of us did go in. It’s pretty solid bedrock, so no risk of falling material. I think it’s actually safer to go in the mine than work on the steep tailing pile. But good lighting was a necessity. The 4 miles of gravel road leading up there is extremely rocky and bone-jarring. Views sure are spectacular though.  I have a few pictures here, but if you want to see more, check out our Facebook Group page.
