June 13th, 2020 Saddle Mountain Field Trip Report

On Sat. June 13th we went over to the central WA Saddle Mountains near Mattawa.  It was windy, but it was dry with moderate temperatures.  I had previously scheduled a trip to Red Top on this weekend, but that area was closed due to a police hunt and since our April trip to Saddle Mtn. had been canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions, the switch was a good one.  We had 12 people in 7 vehicles  – 7 members and 5 guests.  Everyone got their limit and then we went over to the diatom pits near Beverly for some of the diatom opal.  First 4 pics are on Saddle Mtn.  Second 4 pics are of petrified wood.  Last 4 pics are of diatom opal.

  • From the Top of the Rock Pile From the Top of the Rock Pile Our Gem Show is sold out. Everything is moving along with the show. We will be asking for volunteers at the June meeting plus via email. Please plan on helping out at our show. It takes around 50 people to cover all 3 days. I have not been out to see how the building of our indoor shop is coming along at Roger’s home, but I hear from members that it is really coming along. With some good weather, progress should really move along fast. If
