CMS Nov 1st 2020 Field Trip: – First Creek

On Sunday Nov. 1st, we will be going into First Creek.

Meet 9:00 AM at the Cle Elum Safeway near the gas pumps and rest rooms there (exit 84 – 702 W 1st St, Cle Elum).  Note the clocks change with “fall back” that early morning.  This is about a 1.5 hour drive from Renton.  We’ll leave the Safeway at 9:15, head east on Hwy 970, and park at the First Creek parking area (about 10 miles away – just 1/2 mile north of 97/970 junction).  We’ll hit the trail about 9:40.

This is a 2 mile hike from the parking lot to get to the dig areas, but it’s a gentle hike on a good road bed and a wagon or jogging cart is handy for carrying tools and material.  Let me know if you’re planning on coming.

Agates, Jasper, Geodes, and Crystal – Bring digging and hard rock tools, buckets, and sturdy shoes. Appropriate clothing for weather (dress in layers), lunch, drinking water and snacks.

Presidents Message

  • From the Top of the Rock Pile Our annual club picnic went off great. The grass and Arboretum area was not wet or muddy, plus it didn’t rain while we were there. We had the usual club members attend, plus a few new faces. I forgot to count how many people attended, but I estimate around 40. Thank you, Angie and Brian, for shopping for the food and setting everything up. Thumbler’s Tumblers donated a tumbler for our picnic auction and another one for our holiday auction in December. The new double-barreled 15# tumbler sold for $120, approximately one-third the
