May 16th 2026 Field Trip To Biggs/Rufus, Oregon (Jasper, Agate)

Field trip

On May 16th, 2026, we have scheduled (still pending confirmation) a trip on private property near Rufus, Oregon for Biggs Jasper/Agate.  This trip will be led by the owner of Sherman County Rocks rock shop and we need to pay by the pound for what we collect/keep.  $5/pound for Beers Mtn jasper.  $2/pound for China Hollow jasper/agate piled at his shop and $5/pound for Grainite jasper.  There are 7 different kinds of jasper/agate on his property.  We leave at 9:30 AM from his rock shop, so you’ll either need to be on the road very early that morning or drive down on Friday and get a hotel room or camp site.  More details will be sent out to my Field Trips distribution list as we get closer, but if you’re interested, let me know, and make your own arrangements for accomodations.  Last year some of us went afterwards to Richardson’s Rock Ranch which is about an hour+ drive further south.

Presidents Message

  • From the Top of the Rock Pile Our annual club picnic went off great. The grass and Arboretum area was not wet or muddy, plus it didn’t rain while we were there. We had the usual club members attend, plus a few new faces. I forgot to count how many people attended, but I estimate around 40. Thank you, Angie and Brian, for shopping for the food and setting everything up. Thumbler’s Tumblers donated a tumbler for our picnic auction and another one for our holiday auction in December. Meeting Announcements

  • We’re still developing the 2026 calendar of events, but we know one thing for sure – our March general meeting will happen on the 12th at 7pm. We hope to see you there! Show and Tell: also coming soon!

With schools out for many local school districts, we invite members, guests, and especially families and kids to come and enjoy one of our most fun nights of the year. Everyone is guaranteed to win at this FREE event! All you have to do is bring three wrapped presents – presents can be rocks, gems, minerals, crystals, fossils, cabochons, slabs, jewelry, tumbled stones – anything you think might be a nice gift for a rock enthusiast.
