Cascade Mineralogical Society is a non-profit educational organization. Our club is a proud member of the Northwest Federation of Mineralogical Societies, American Federation of Mineralogical Societies and the WA Mineral Council.

We welcome individuals interested in geology, mineralogy, paleontology, gems and related lapidary arts to join us. The objective of the club is to stimulate interest in the study of the earth sciences, lapidary arts and related subjects. These goals will be accomplished through educational presentations, personal experience and demonstrations at club meetings and other public presentations. The club also provides opportunities for field trips, rock collecting and social gatherings. We are located in Kent, WA.

  • Mike and I attended the April Northwest Regional Show in Yakima. I was so proud of our club when they handed out the NFMS and AFMS awards. If you attended our May general meeting you are already aware of these awards. Meeting Announcements

  • General Meeting – June 14th

    General Meeting – June 14th Topic: The current Hawaiian volcanic eruption. The USGS and HVO have put out a video on the current eruption of Halema’uma’u and the eruption history of Kilauea. Show ‘n Tell: Show off the volcanic (igneous) rocks in your collection. Magma erupts from volcanoes, the lava cools and forms rocks. Obsidian, pumice, rhyolite, tuff, scoria and basalt are just a few samples of igneous rocks.

  • Youth Program

    The Cascade Mineralogical Society is a member of AFMS’s program Future Rockhounds of America. All kids belonging to clubs affiliated with Future Rockhounds of America automatically receive the FRA Membership Badge. The badge program is designed to encourage young Rockhounds to learn further about the hobby of rocks, minerals and/or fossils. It also teaches them confidence in speaking, how to organize their thoughts, writing and presentation skills.   • June 11th – Board Meeting

    Board meeting on June 11th, 2018, at Wendy’s at 505 E Smith, Kent, WA 7:00 PM. The Board meeting follows the Show Committee meeting. Please plan on attending if you are curious as to what goes on behind the scene with our Club. Everyone is welcome to attend one or both meetings.

    Our next show committee meeting will be before the board meeting on June 11th, 2018, at Wendy’s at 505 E Smith, Kent, WA 6:30 PM. We will meet prior to the monthly board meeting. If you are interested in helping organize and plan the show please attend. Show committee meeting starts at 6:30 with a short board meeting after, you are welcome to attend one or both meetings.
