Welcome

Cascade Mineralogical Society is a non-profit educational organization. We welcome individuals interested in geology, mineralogy, paleontology, gems and related lapidary arts to join us. The objective of the club is to stimulate interest in the study of the earth sciences, lapidary arts and related subjects. These goals will be accomplished through educational presentations, personal experience and demonstrations at club meetings and other public presentations. The club also provides opportunities for field trips, rock collecting and social gatherings. We are located in Kent, WA.

All are welcome and membership is open to everyone.

    Much fun was had by all at our “Rock Bingo” March meeting! We all had fun and went home with new additions. The Board has passed a resolution to recognize a CMS member every 3 months for their volunteer work for our Club. Board members are NOT eligible for this award.     Meeting Topic: Glenn Morita on rock and crystal collecting in Washington. The speaker this month will be long time rockhounder Glenn Morita, of the Marysville Club. Glenn will be speaking on rock and crystal collecting in Washington. Glenn is the WA Mineral Council West Side Trustee and WA Mineral Council Newsletter Editor. He is driving to Kent from Marysville at a peak traffic time so let’s all show him a big welcome and sign of appreciation by having good attendance for this meeting.   • Looking ahead to the 2017 Washington State Fair, Puyallup.

    The Puyallup State Fair receives very few entries for it’s Lapidary section. Therefore, they have notified us they are going to close down this category if entries do not pickup. We don’t want this to happen! So plan on entering into the Fair a sample of your hobby or lapidary work. If you do anything with rocks, crystals, fossils, silversmithing, etc. there is a category for your work. You do win prize money at every win level. Online registration open May 2017.
