Welcome

Cascade Mineralogical Society is a non-profit educational organization. We welcome individuals interested in geology, mineralogy, paleontology, gems and related lapidary arts to join us. The objective of the club is to stimulate interest in the study of the earth sciences, lapidary arts and related subjects. These goals will be accomplished through educational presentations, personal experience and demonstrations at club meetings and other public presentations. The club also provides opportunities for field trips, rock collecting and social gatherings. We are located in Kent, WA.

All are welcome and membership is open to everyone.

  • President’s Message – May 2017

    May and June are very busy months for me. Mike and I are going to Hamilton, Montana for the NW Federation Show. Our club newsletter (Keith Morgan) and website (Mark Hohn) have been entered into the NW Federation contest. Also Bob Pattie has been nominated for “Rockhound of the Year.” These Federation Shows are large shows and always so much fun plus you get to see rocks and gems that don’t usually appear at shows in our area.   • Thursday, May 11th – General Meeting

    Thursday, May 11th – General Meeting Meeting Topic: Knapping. CMS member Rich Russell is going to speak on knapping. Knapping is the art of making arrowheads. Show ‘n Tell, Raffle: In celebration of spring show off your most colorful rocks or minerals.

  • Looking ahead to the 2017 Washington State Fair, Puyallup.

    The Puyallup State Fair receives very few entries for it’s Lapidary section. Therefore, they have notified us they are going to close down this category if entries do not pickup. We don’t want this to happen! So plan on entering into the Fair a sample of your hobby or lapidary work. If you do anything with rocks, crystals, fossils, silversmithing, etc. there is a category for your work. You do win prize money at every win level. Online registration open May 2017.
